Bridges Crossing the Arkansas River

One of the interesting sites nearby is the Big Dam Bridge over the Arkansas River.  This is the longest bridge built only for pedestrians and bicycles in the U.S.  It looms nearly seven stories above river and provides a great overlook over the lock and dam system.


The walking part of the bridge is the top span. Below it is the dam and in the lower right corner is the lock.


Keeping on the topic of bridges, Little Rock has six bridges that cross the Arkansas River.  Two are old drawbridges.  One has been turned into a walking bridge and plans are to do the same to the other one.
